Piedmont Varsity Wildcats snatched the lead late in the game in a 6-4 victory over Clinton on Thursday. The game was tied at three with Piedmont Wildcats batting in the top of the fifth when Dax Priddy singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.
Piedmont Wildcats earned the victory despite allowing Clinton to score three runs in the fourth inning. Clinton scored its runs on a home run by Powell.
Piedmont Wildcats got things started in the first inning. Priddy singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Clinton tied things up at three when an error scored two runs for Clinton.
Cole Girard pitched Piedmont Wildcats to victory. The righty surrendered three runs on three hits over six innings, striking out 11. Dalton Hampton threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. Hampton recorded the last three outs to earn the save for Piedmont Varsity Wildcats.
Wapole took the loss for Clinton. Wapole surrendered five runs on five hits over four and third innings, striking out three.
Priddy led Piedmont Wildcats with three hits in four at-bats. Trey Migl led Piedmont Wildcats with three stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with 11 stolen bases.
Powell went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Clinton Reds Varsity in hits.
