Gabe Clyden would not be denied at the plate when runners were on base on Monday, driving in five on three hits to lead Piedmont Varsity Wildcats past Guthrie Bluejays Varsity 17-1 on Monday. Clyden drove in runs on a single in the second, a single in the second, and a single in the fifth.
Piedmont Varsity Wildcats secured the victory thanks to nine runs in the second inning. Piedmont Varsity Wildcats put the pressure on, lead by singles by Clyden and Clyden, an error on a ball put in play by Dalton Hampton and Cole Girard, a walk by Dax Priddy, and a fielder’s choice by Cole Riggs.

In the second Clyden singled on the first pitch of the at-bat, scoring one run, Langley induced Riggs to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored, Priddy drew a walk, scoring one run, an error scored two runs for Piedmont Varsity Wildcats, an error scored two runs for Piedmont Varsity Wildcats, and Clyden singled on a 2-1 count, scoring two runs.
Caleb Lunnon got the win for Piedmont Varsity Wildcats. The right-hander lasted five innings, allowing four hits and one run while striking out seven.
Langley took the loss for Guthrie Bluejays Varsity. The bulldog surrendered 11 runs on five hits over four innings, striking out seven.
Piedmont Varsity Wildcats tallied nine hits on the day. Clyden and Priddy all managed multiple hits for Piedmont Varsity Wildcats. Clyden went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Piedmont Varsity Wildcats in hits.
Walters led Guthrie Bluejays Varsity with two hits in three at-bats.
